Project

This 1970’s Tierrasanta kitchen was outdated, dark and cramped for this family of four.

The homeowners were interested in a renovation that would create a kitchen that would seem larger without moving any of the home’s exterior walls.  A traditional, function and inviting kitchen was the homeowner’s wish.  To accomplish these goals, the wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed.  The ceiling was raised six inches.  To create more wall and counter space, a six-foot slider was replaced with a single French door.  The small section of wall with brick attached to it, was pushed back twelve inches.  Removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room allowed enough room for a peninsula that seats two.  The peninsula functions perfectly as either a snack area for the families’ two children or as a food preparation area.  The visually interesting, full-height granite backsplash behind the gas range provides a measure of boldness that is properly balanced by the traditional style, cherry cabinets and the detailed crown molding.  The textured glass on the wall cabinets on either side of the window, provide a feeling of openness.

All the combined design elements, cabinetry, flooring, granite and wall color created a functional, warm and inviting kitchen for this family.
