The Challenge:

To create a home office from a bonus room with a mirrored closed.  Requirements included working area for two adults with multiple working surfaces and space for two notebook computers.  A minimum of six letter size file drawers and stage were required.  A media center to consist of TV, DVD/CD player and concealed speakers was necessary.  An open feeling was requested with open wall space for artwork.

The Solution:

A large center island was designed to be accessible from both sides with open keen space at a 45 degree angle so the user could turn from one area to another for a second work station.  Drawer stacks and open shelves were included under the island within easy reach of the work stations and storage was added at the end of the island.  Ten file drawers were included within a raised counter for phones, printer/fax, letter trays, etc.  The closet was turned into the media center with the TV off center in order to center it at the end of the island for better visibility by both users.  Open space for a TV, speaker fabric doors below to conceal the components and speakers was combined with storage above and to the right.  A tall furniture piece was added on one wall for additional storage.

Wide stile and rail cherry cabinetry with a medium stain combined with sleek stainless pulls gives the space a rich, contemporary style.  Countertops were fabricated with solid surfacing for a durable, hard working surface with ease of maintenance and seamless installation.  A chase to hide wiring and cables under the desk top also served as countertop support for the wide span.
